They are between 20 and 27 years old and have started their young career in the maritime sector or wish to move into it. For several months now, 106 young people from 25 European countries have decided to commit themselves to improving the future of maritime transport and the maritime professions. They are students or young professionals in the fields of oceanography, marine biology or political science and they wish to be actors of the maritime world.
The first European network of maritime ambassadors
Surfrider Europe, with the support of the French Ministry of the Sea, has selected these young ambassadors of the maritime world who will have to be a force of proposal in front of the European institutions and the European ministers of the sea.
Since November 2021, the ambassadors of the Eurocean’s Youth network have been working with experts to propose recommendations on blue careers and maritime transport.
Ocean-related issues are an integral part of the fight against climate change. The ocean produces 50% of the oxygen we breathe and absorbs 25% of the CO2 emitted each year. The maritime sector has a direct impact on this, so it is essential to improve the sector’s practices to limit its impact.
A week in La Rochelle to present the recommendations
From February 7 to 11, a delegation of 15 Eurocean’s Youth ambassadors will be present in La Rochelle to present the recommendations that the 106 have been working on since November. This blue week is part of the French Presidency of the European Union, initiated by the French Minister of the Sea Annick Girardin.
This restitution will take place on Wednesday, February 10, during a round table entitled “Objective 2050: How to reinvent ourselves?”, which will conclude the “European Interministerial Conference on the Sea” in the presence of various European ministers of the sea and ecological transition.
A blue week concluded by the One Ocean Summit
4 ambassadors of the Eurocean’s Youth network will also be present in Brest for the One Ocean Summit on February 10 and 11. They will participate in a workshop entitled: “Which Europe of the sea?” where they will present their work on blue careers and maritime transport.
The Eurocean’s Youth network does not stop at the end of this week, the ambassadors will continue to represent the interests of the Ocean in the maritime world in their respective countries and at major events around the maritime sector.
