Ocean Pavilion

At the end of August, the leaders of the seven most powerful economic countries in the world will gather in Biarritz for a G7 Summit against inequalities. On this occasion, Surfrider Foundation Europe will mobilize from 20 to 23 August to advocate for ocean protection as an integral part of international negotiations.

4 days to bring the ocean into international negotiations

Ocean Pavilion : 4 days, 4 themes to protect the ocean

From August 20 to 23, the Ocean Pavilion will take place in Biarritz and Anglet, France.

This event creates the opportunity to draw attention to one of the biggest challenges of our generation, climate change. Earlier this year, Surfrider Europe’s Voice for the Ocean project engaged the voice of thousands of Europe’s citizens to champion improved regulations for ocean and climate protection. Now the NGO wants to go further by elevating citizen demand to the global arena. With Ocean Pavilion, Surfrider Europe aims to encourage a focus on issues of environmental and ocean preservation during 2019 G7 Summit negotiations. The Ocean Pavilion will be an opportunity to establish concrete recommendations for our G7 leaders to act quickly for the preservation of our planet. Surfrider Europe will bring together scientific experts, NGOs, politicians, companies, journalists and public figures in an effort to raise awareness for ocean protection as a global issue and the need for appropriate measures to be taken.

Emergency call

The commitments of a society ready to change

The Ocean Call will be the official declaration published at the conclusion of 4 days of workshops, speakers, and conferences at the Ocean Pavilion. It will include environmental commitments from the participants, but also proposals for concrete commitments from G7 leaders present at the international summit.

Citizens, non-governmental organizations, businesses, local authorities, heads of state and governments: the whole of society must now commit themselves to protect the ocean against ongoing threats. Through the Ocean Call, Surfrider Europe aims to demonstrate that all civic actors (citizens, private sector, public sector) are ready to make the change and commit to actions that will preserve our marine environments. The question now is, are our global leaders ready to do the same?
