Canche Bay, France

We are faced with the degradation of the Canche Bay Nature Reserve due to a lack of maintenance by the local council, which is planning to extend the marina in Touquet.

There is marked damage to the edge of the coastal road which runs along Canche Bay at the northern point of Le Touquet. We also deplore the accumulation of all kinds of rubble along the waterfront.

In 2008, the association Canche en Danger ('Canche in Danger') asks the local council to carry out rehabilitation and protection work at the site, but the council declines.

Surfrider Foundation Europe is approached by the association and launches a petition. SFE then alerts the municipality, which seems to deem the reinforcement work necessary but believes that it does not fall within its remit.
