Surfrider Foundation is partnering with Quantic Dream and Parallel Studio to amplify its environmental messages in the game Under The Waves, scheduled for release in 2023 on consoles and PC.
Announced on August 23, 2022 at Gamescom, Under The Waves is a narrative adventure developed by Parallel Studio and published by Quantic Dream. Through the story of Stan, a professional diver working for an oil company, Under The Waves amplifies the ecological messages of the Surfrider Foundation and raises awareness about the importance of preserving the ocean.
Under The Waves will immerse players in gorgeous environments, where exploration of caves, wrecks and underwater wildlife will be key to guiding Stan through an unforeseen series of events, deeper and deeper into the abyss. Following mysterious manifestations of his memories, Stan will have the difficult choice to stay lost in the depths forever or break free to the surface.

This collaboration allows Surfrider Foundation to educate about ocean issues in a whole new way. The organisation has been working for 30 years to protect the ocean by raising public awareness of the threats to the marine environment. The game offers us a great opportunity to amplify our prevention and protection messages, by tackling the issues of water pollution and the impact of offshore drilling, which is still unknown to the general public, as well as the impact of human activity on marine biodiversity and the harmful consequences of maritime transport.
Surfrider Foundation is working with the game’s creators to get the right messages across and integrate them into the narrative.
