Morocco : 2 400 people mobilized on the beach !
On Sunday April 22nd 2012, approximately 2400 people, among whom about 750 children (orphans, pupils, etc.), 520 business executives, 93 volunteers, 50 workers and approximately 1000 subscribers actively participated in cleaning the beach of Ain Diab, in Casablanca. About 3 tons of waste were collected on this day, which also happened to be Earth Day.
The Bahri Association, a local partner of Surfrider Foundation Maroc,, organized the event which included mixing the environment with a multitude of animations, artistic workshops, shows and sports activities …
This day was honored by the presence of the consul general of the United States, Brian Shukan, the ambassador of the United States, Samuel Kaplan and Mr Sajid, Mayor of Casablanca. Along with their famillies, they took advantage of this occasion to recognise the importance of the environmental protection.
The members of Surfrider Foundation Maroc, who came from Agadir for the occasion, educated parents and children in the importance of protecting our coast, as well as welcoming young children to take part in activities going on in their tent. More than simply raising awareness, each was able to express thenselves through a painting workshop and everybody joined the cleaning of the beach.
Congratulations to all the Bahri Team, who worked incredibly hard, and to everyone whose took part on the day !
