Look Up : The Surfrider Chapters mobilized for climate
Saturday March 12, France joined together to denounce climate emergency. From Paris to Bayonne and Nice, the Surfrider’s volunteers answered the call to walk together and call out for decisionmakers.
CLIMATE CAN’T WAIT !
Surfrider Europe focuses its work on three levers of action, including advocacy. Calling on politicians is essential to change the laws and ensure that they are committed to an effective protection of the ocean and the environment. Mobilizing on the ground with events such as the climate walks is therefore essential and shows that the health of our planet is a major concern.
Not enough mentioned, or even missing in political discussions, the climate is nevertheless a key issue for any good governance hoping for a sustainable future. The "Look Up" walks thus hijack the title of the documentary "Don't Look Up" which denounces the political denial of climate change. It is a question of looking the truth in the face because the next few years will be crucial, and actions must be taken now
A BLUE TIDE IN THE STREETS
Thanks to the involvement of volunteers and members of Surfrider, the protests were tinged with blue. Our claims were clear: let's preserve the ocean to fight against climate change. This type of event illustrates the unfailing commitment of those who wear the colors of Surfrider Europe. It is through collective action that we initiate change. Regardless of the location, this community is mobilizing to raise a voice that is not heard enough: the voice of the ocean. With no less than 49 chapters, Surfrider Europe deploys its network and acts locally on the ground.
On Saturday, 80 000 people gathered, the next event will take place on April 9, to put the climate emergency back at the very heart of the debate.
