About Surfrider Foundation Europe (www.surfrider.eu)
The NGO Surfrider Foundation is a collective of positive activists who protect the Ocean via every possible means: education, citizen engagement, the transformation of polluting industries and the changing of laws.
Surfrider’s mission is carried out through its European headquarters based in Biarritz, 4 territorial offices for the implementation of projects (Marseille, Bordeaux, Paris and Brussels), several national entities (Spain, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands) and 48 volunteer groups in 13 European countries.
MAIN MISSIONS
Within the framework of the strategy defined by the Board of Directors and the Strategic Committee (COSTRAT) and under the authority of the CEO, the head of European network is responsible for:
- Support the development of local actions in Europe in coordination with headquarters:
- Define and ensure the implementation of the overall strategy within within area of responsibility.
- Strategy dedicated to volunteer mobilization
- Strategy related to the development and structuring of national entities
- Supervise the animation of all volunteer networks
- Facilitate links and exchanges between European headquarters, local entities & groups
- Support and assist in structuring the territories in interaction with other teams at the European headquarters
- Define, direct and coordinate communication within the department and with other teams
- Ensure, in the field of competence, the representation of the association;
- Guarantee a close management (hierarchical or functional) with the teams concerned
- Manage a team of 14 employees
- Develop and encourage a cooperative and mutual support posture among employees of his team and with other teams
- Organise and implement the transversality of work across the entire association structure: ensure the link between territories and headquarters teams
- Contribute to the definition and implementation of the global strategy of Surfrider Europe
• Participate, as a COSTRAT member, in defining the overall strategy and monitoring its implementation.
• Support the CEO in the support and the development of the highlights of community life on a European scale
• Contribute to the representation of the association at the general level if necessary
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- University degree, master’s level
- Background or experience in environmental issues, volunteers’ mobilization and engagement, campaigning – relevant legislation knowledge is an advantage
- Between 5 and 10 years of relevant professional experience
- Strong experience in people engagement and familiarity moving in a multicultural network
- Strong managerial experience
- Excellent English and French writing and speaking skills and preferably at least one other European language
- Program and project management skills: fundings issues, project logical framework, financial management

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Full-time permanent
- Status: “cadre”
- Place of exercise of its mission to be defined (preference Biarritz, possibility Bordeaux, Marseille Paris, Brussels)
- High mobility is mandatory
- Taking office: as soon as possible in 2025
- Compensation: from 3 034€ gross monthly based on profile and experience
